East End Camera E-mail

An East End Camera
£7.99

The much-anticipated East End Camera book from Jack Wrigley ... the ninth in the series.
The author writes: "In choosing the east end of Sheffield for my ninth book in the series, I am mindful that there have already been three books devoted to Attercliffe from this publisher alone.
There is no doubt that the area evokes nostalgic thoughts of days gone by and haunts remembered. Developers who clear the stones cannot also clear memories.
The east end has undergone more change than any other part of Sheffield with the possible exception of Lower Walkley. In this book I have tried to show places that have gone forever. I have also tried to avoid pictures that have appeared in other publications."

Postcards from Sheffield E-mail

Postcards from Sheffield
£8.99

Who would have thought that over the last 120 years, a hastily scrawled postcard to a friend, possibly mentioning family members, the weather, or some other such day to day trivialities, would help chart the visual history of our city?
Like most English cities, Sheffield has changed so many times in the last hundred years, that you might be hard pushed to place the location of some of the postcards shown in this book.
Images of Glossop Road, Attercliffe Common, Leopold Street etc. are almost unrecognisable with today’s view.
Alternatively, some views and buildings look no different, except for the clothing of the passers-by or the mode of transport caught on the image.
Postcards from Sheffield offers you a chance to glimpse a little bit of the city’s history and hopefully to inspire interest in deltiology (postcard collecting). You will find old postcards can be bought very easily from car-boots, brick-a-brac shops, and from the internet (eg. ebay), often for less that a pound sterling.
